Some fun street car racing at Firebird raceway |

Down here in Phoenix we have nothing better to do than race our cars. Our spaces are so pointlessly wide and spread out, that racing is the only seemingly possible way to make it from one destination to another.
But in all seriousness, thought, street car racing is a big thing down here and often people will take their suped up cars down to the race track and engage in some official racing free of any potential fines, photo radar and all of the other nuissances associated with street car racing in the city.
A while back, I went with my dad to watch some street car racing at Firebird raceway. My dad is a really good mechanic and really into racing, so he took me down there to watch some locals fire up their cars against each other. It wasn't traditional racing, but more like gauging speed on a quarter mile. We saw some really neat suped up cars - everything from trucks to two doors and historic vehicles. Some were impressive and some were average. Overall, my street car racing experience was pretty good, and the bonus was seeing a real life rocket car do 4.6 seconds on the quarter mile.
Nuts! |
